The Beginning of My Journey
November of 2016, I remember looking at myself after taking a shower and thinking, "how did I get here?" It seemed like just a few months ago that I was so thin, trim, toned and didn't have to worry about bra fat or muffin top. But looking at myself after this shower showed a totally different side than I remember.
I'm now on 14 different medications, including my abortive migraine medications, lupus IV infusion, and Sjogren eye drop medication. The combination of medications have caused weight gain through the years not too mention I haven't been really good about watching my portion control.
It's been 9 years since my diagnosis and I've had a bad year. I'm at my heaviest weight ever. I'm heavier than my heaviest pregnancy and when you're 5'2" being 149 lbs is a lot of extra weight to carry around on a petite frame. My joints are super bad, my lung function is down to 58%, I have a mitral valve prolapse, my RA has been out of control, and this year has reeked havoc on my Raynauds. With all of this going on, it has really affected my mental state. I know I have to do something but I wasn't mentally ready!
By the time January rolled around I was finally prepared. I had to do this. I had to invest in myself. I had to make my quality of life better not only for myself but for my family.
I contacted this Beachbody Coach that I found on Facebook back in November, so glad I kept her information, and I told her I was ready! I started my personal journey on February 6th. I learned how to meal prep and plan meals for myself and family. Holy Moly! I learned I could eat 6 meals a day, 3 actual meals and 3 snacks. I was actually full and having a hard time actually eating all of my food. I was exercising only 30 minutes a day too. At first I was having difficulty because of my lungs and my joints but that was OK. There is a modifier that I could follow along with at my own pace. I did as much as I could, for as long as I could. I was persistent and just kept doing what I was supposed to do. What I really liked was this accountability group I was in. There were other women just like me, well, not having lupus but women who had the same goals as I do. We're all working towards the same thing...to be healthy and loose weight.
I loved being part of the Beachbody program so much that I decided to become a Coach myself. I'm still a work in progress and I continue to workout daily, eat healthy, and drink Shakeology.
This is my journey....
Down 20 pounds and 2 pant sizes! I'm now down a total of 24 lbs and counting!
